Overview
This is a high-intensity, hands-on workshop designed to maximise participant time on the probe, recognising that image acquisition is the most challenging and critical component of learning echocardiography. The workshop prioritises supervised scanning in small groups, allowing participants to develop confidence in obtaining core echocardiographic views through repeated practice. Foundational theory is expected to be completed prior to the workshop through ACEM learning modules and curated pre-reading materials, enabling the face-to-face session to focus almost entirely on skill acquisition. A focused session on lung insonation is incorporated to complement cardiac imaging, reinforcing the value of combined heart and lung ultrasound in time-critical emergency presentations. The workshop concludes with a series of real-life emergency department cases where point-of-care echocardiography played a pivotal role in diagnosis and management, consolidating learning and emphasising immediate clinical relevance.
This workshop is based on the well-established BELI (Basic Echocardiography and Lung Insonation) program developed at Armadale Ultrasound School, which has trained clinicians across Western Australia.
This course is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and the Australian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM), supporting participants working towards recognized ultrasound competencies.
