Dr Stephen Parnis is a senior emergency physician at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, and the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1992, serving as Chair of the Melbourne University Student Union in 1991. He obtained Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 2007, and has served on the Trainee Selection and Public Health Committees of ACEM. He was the President of AMA Victoria 2012-14, Chair of the AMA Council of Salaried Doctors 2011-14, a member of the AMA Federal Council 2011-16, and Vice President of the Australian Medical Association 2014-16. In late 2017, Dr Parnis led the campaign against legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia in the State of Victoria. Dr Parnis is the Board Chair of the Medical Insurance Group of Australia (MIGA), and a Non-Executive Director of Hearing Australia. Dr Parnis was a prominent voice from the frontline during the Covid pandemic. He continues to speak and advise on medical and health policy matters.
