Teresa completed her PhD at Oregon State University (1998) and worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Victoria (20yrs) where she provided an on-call service to the Poisons Information Centre of Victoria before moving to the Botanic Gardens & State Herbarium of South Australia (2020). Over the course of her career Teresa has described over 20 new genera and 130 species of macrofungi, developed identification tools and educational resources, and mentored undergraduate student interns, graduate students, citizen scientists and health professionals in the study and identification of fungi. She currently provides an expert on-call service for SA Health & WA-PIC, assisting in cases of ingestion of potentially poisonous fungi. Teresa’s current projects include analysing truffle-like fungal genomes and describing new species, the invasive potential of exotic fungi, use of fungal inoculum in restoration sites, investigating mushroom toxins, and intriguing interactions between plants, insects, mammals and fungi in complex communities.
