Michael Barrett

Michael Barrett is a University College Cork, NUI alumnus (2004). Dr. Barrett’s expertise was honed through a pre and post-CCST Fellowship in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

In 2015, he returned as an appointed Consultant in the Department of Paediatric Emergency Medicine at OLCHC, Dublin, Ireland. Other achievements include his Fellowship at the Faculty of Paediatrics in 2017 and Associate Clinical Professor in 2018 at UCD School of Medicine, eventually becoming a Clinical Professor in 2023. His governance roles including, Interim Chair Drugs and Therapeutics Committee at OLCHC, Crumlin, 2019-2020 on the Governance Board of the National Office of Clinical Audit representing the Faculty of Paediatrics, RCPI, and his current leadership as Chair of National Paediatric Mortality Register, NOCA.

As a regional representative for Ireland in PERUKI’s executive committee since 2021, Dr. Barrett’s influence extends internationally. His leadership in bringing multinational paediatric drug trials in emergency settings in Ireland are testaments to his expertise.

He provides peer reviews for local and international organisations. Currently, he leads the Paediatric Emergency Research & Innovation (PERI) group at Children’s Health Ireland, continuing their impactful work in paediatric care.
